Mark Mellet

Mark Mellett served as Ireland’s highest ranking military officer. As Chief of Defence, Admiral Mellett was the Irish government’s principal military adviser and a member of the National Security Committee and the EU Military Committee. With service as a specialist Naval Diving Officer and Seagoing Commander, Mellett also served in Afghanistan and Lebanon. The Admiral received two Distinguished Service Medals and was appointed to the rank of Commander in the National Order of the Légion d’Honneur by the President of the French Republic.
Admiral Mellett is Council Chair and Board Member of the IMI, Deputy Chair of Sage Advocacy and an Adjunct Professor at UCC. He holds a PhD in Ecosystem Governance and is the founder of ‘Green Compass’ which provides strategic advice to governments, industry and ENGOs. The Admiral holds a PhD in Political Science in Governance from NUI Galway and a Master of Commerce in Government and Public Policy from University College Cork (UCC). He is a distinguished graduate of the U.S. Naval War College, where he was the top graduate of the thirty-two attending countries. Mellett was also the top graduate in both the Irish Command and Staff College and the Royal Naval College. A Fellow of the Nautical Institute (FNI) and a visiting Professor at The Centre for Applied Research in Security Innovation (CASI) at Liverpool Hope University, Admiral Mellett has published in the areas of security, innovation and governance. |
